Course Overview


Duration:  6–8 hours (initial), 3–4 hours (refresher)

Target Audience: Authorized entrants, attendants, entry supervisors, and rescue personnel

Regulatory Basis:

  • Title 8 CCR § 5157 (Permit-Required Confined Spaces)
  • Title 8 CCR § 5158 (Other Confined Space Operations)
  • Title 8 CCR § 3203 (Injury and Illness Prevention Program – training)

Learning Objective:
Ensure employees can identify confined spaces, recognize hazards, safely perform entry operations, and comply with Cal/OSHA permit requirements.

Introduction to Confined Spaces

  • Definition of a confined space:
    • Limited entry/exit
    • Not designed for continuous occupancy
  • Examples:
    • Tanks
    • Vaults
    • Silos
    • Manholes
  • Overview of incident statistics and common fatalities

Regulatory Requirements (Cal/OSHA)

  • Differences between:
    • Confined Space
    • Permit-Required Confined Space (PRCS)
  • Employer responsibilities under §5157
